ILOILO – The new P5 coin is now circulating all over the province, a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) officer announced.
According to Bank Officer II Lowen Andrew June Ligad, the P5 New Generation Currency (NGC) coin is “legal tender.”
The public should not mistake them for fake coins, Ligad said on Wednesday. “Some people might not accept them.”
The P5 NGC coin was released to commemorate the 120th death anniversary and the 154th birth anniversary of the hero Andres Bonifacio.
It replaced the old P5 coin bearing the image of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. Its reverse side features the Philippine plant “Tayabak” and the BSP logo.
Moreover, limited edition P1 coins with the logo of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were also released in line with the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN, Ligad said.
He urged the public, especially those who have knowledge about the new coin, to help spread the information. “Let us help in telling others about the new coin.”
The BSP has not received any complaint with regard to the new coins so far, the central bank official said. (PNA)
