THE Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) will hold a consultation with the management sector on the proposed daily minimum wage increase in Western Visayas.
This will be on Feb. 20 in Iloilo, RTWPB Region 6 labor representative Wennie Sancho said on Wednesday. A separate consultation with the labor sector will be held soon, he said.
The Philippine Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Workers Union – Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, through National Vice President for Visayas Joan Cristales, filed the wage hike petition on Jan. 22.
The labor organization sought daily minimum wage increases ranging from P130 to P150.
Currently the minimum wage in Western Visayas ranged from P271.50 to P323.50, depending on the industry and the number of workers employed, under Wage Order No. 23, which expires on March 16.
There should be an immediate action on the wage petition amid the series of oil price increases, Sancho said.
A new wage order should be issued within 45 days after the last public hearing, he added.
“We are expecting other petitions to be filed so these will be acted upon simultaneously,” said Labor regional director Johnson Cañete, chairman of the RTWPB.
After consultations with management and labor sectors, at least two public hearings will be held before the board deliberations, Cañete said. (PNA)
