BACOLOD City – Starting today the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) will regulate public utility jeepneys (PUJs) passing by Luzuriaga-Araneta streets.
PUJs plying the routes Sum-ag – Central Market and Punta Taytay – Central Market and vice versa will be affected, said Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, BTAO officer-in-charge.
Several private vehicle owners have complained that they find it hard to access Luzuriaga-Araneta streets due to congestion.
Originally the PUJs going to barangays Sum-ag and Punta Taytay load and unload passengers in front of Plaza Mart, at the left lane when facing north.
Now they will have to use the right lane, picking up and dropping passengers in front of Lopue’s Araneta.
This means private vehicles entering Luzuriaga-Araneta streets will have to use the opposite lane, Acebuche said.
Meanwhile Acebuche suggested that private vehicles use San Juan Street in Barangay Banago when heading north if possible.
This will help decongest Lacson Street in Barangay Mandalagan where a new mall recently opened, he said./PN
