New Year’s Day fire hits Bacolod house

BACOLOD City – A house caught fire during the celebration of New Year’s Day on Sunday, Jan. 1, in Purok Paloma, Barangay 16 here. Three people were injured.

Authorities identified the victims as 41-year-old Maricel Española, 41-year-old Marcial Española and 18-year-old Junel Española.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Bacolod City, they received a call from Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade that a house owned by a certain Cezar Jeronga caught fire in the said village around 2:27 a.m.

Firefighters immediately responded and they managed to douse the blaze within a few minutes.

Both Maricel and Marcial sustained first degree burns on their right index finger, while Junel suffered abrasions on both of his legs.

The house, meanwhile, was partially damaged.

As of this writing, arson investigators were still determining the cause of the fire and the total value of the damaged properties./PN
