BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia invited all Bacolodnons to the New Year’s Eve party and countdown at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Starting 6 p.m. on Saturday, the “31 to 1” event includes various activities and will be capped by a fireworks display at midnight.
It is an “occasion where Bacolod should come together as one family,” said Leonardia.
He believes the fireworks display, courtesy of MassKara Festival fireworks competition winner Peacock Fireworks, will discourage households from using firecrackers or spending for their own fireworks.
Surprises await those who will flock to the city hall ground.
A prize will be given to the barangay with the most number of attending residents, said Leonardia.
Senior citizens will be given cakes, too, he said. An ordinance providing for birthday cakes for the elderly takes effect in 2017.
City hall will also recognize Bacolodnon achievers, including licensure examination topnotchers and artists who won in national-level competitions.
“It is only fitting that as we bid 2016 goodbye, we honor those who gave honor to Bacolod this year and inspire us to welcome 2017 with hope and optimism,” Leonardia said.
The mayor advised the public not to bring backpacks or huge bags to avoid the inconvenience of inspection.
Leonardia has also led New Year’s Eve parties during his previous term, from 2010 to 2012./PN
