BACOLOD City – One hundred eighty-five senior citizens here received P277,500 in social pension from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Negros Island Region.
Each got P1,500, their allocation for the last quarter of the year, yesterday at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, indigent senior citizens are entitled to a P500 monthly stipend to augment their daily subsistence and medical needs.
The city government’s Department of Social Services and Development facilitated the distribution of the pension.
Qualified to receive the monthly pension are senior citizens who are:
* frail, sickly or with disability
* without pension from the Government Service Insurance System, Social Security System, Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association, Inc., and other insurance companies
* without any permanent source of income or regular support from relatives. (PNA)
