ILOILO – To showcase the creativity and originality of government officials and employees, the Iloilo provincial capitol will have a “no bag day challenge” this Oct. 10.
Fifth District Provincial Board member Carol-V Espinosa-Diaz wrote to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. on Sept. 19 requesting for such “challenge”.
The “no bag day challenge” has become popular in schools; instead of their usual school bags, students are being challenged to use alternatives and be creative.
Diaz said one of the main thrusts of the provincial government is environmental conservation and protection. Thus for the challenge capitol employees will be required to use recycled containers or other creative and unique alternatives to conventional bags for one day, preferably Monday, to encourage all officials and employees to start the week with something interesting.
“The ‘no bag day challenge’ shall send a strong message of environmental concern, create awareness, and ultimately, celebrate God’s wonderful gift of creation available all around us,” read part of the Provincial Board member’s letter to Defensor.
The Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO), headed by Atty. Cesar Buyco Jr., will be the lead agency in implementing the challenge./PN
