No Boracay? No problem

6 beautiful beaches you can visit in WV

Seco Island

BY ROEYNA MAY FAMISARAN

THAT Boracay Island is the tourism gem of the Philippines – raking in billions of pesos in revenue – did not stop the government from shutting it down for six months for rehabilitation.

Now that the world-famous island is closed off to visitors, many tourists – locals and foreigners alike – are wondering where to go.

But there is no need to worry. Western Visayas is gifted with unspoiled and beautiful islands waiting to be explored.

Pan de Azucar

Concepcion Islands

The islands in Concepcion are slowly making waves among wanderers.

Located in the northern part of Iloilo, Concepcion wows travelers with its rich marine life and clear waters.

Its most visited islands are Agho, Bulubadiangan and Pan de Azucar. Feel free to visit its other islands Tago, Bagaoisi and Botlog as well.

Hinugtan Beach

Hinugtan Beach, Buruanga

Boracay Island is not all Aklan has.

There are a lot more other destinations in the province, including the Hinugtan Beach in Bel-is, Buruanga town.

If you are looking for a really tranquil place to visit, Hinugtan is for you.

Imagine turquoise waters kissing the white sand, green hills, beautiful rocks, and a truly serene community. It’s breathtaking. It feels like Boracay in the ’80s.

Sicogon Island

Sicogon Island

Another gem of northern Iloilo, Sicogon rose to fame in the ’70s and ’80s because of the presence of a high-end resort.

But it has returned to its simple roots and serene life. Travelers enjoy the azure waters and fine sand.

Tatlong Pulo

Tatlong Pulo Beach, Guimaras

Named after the three islets facing the beach, Tatlong Pulo in Jordan town has been gaining attention in the past few years because it is less crowded than other beaches in the island province of Guimaras.

It doesn’t even have high-end accommodations and decent cottages. People just camp out and enjoy the chill vibe. Nevertheless, Tatlong Pulo is a must-visit.

Marbuena Island

Marbuena Island, Ajuy

Marbuena Island in Ajuy town is also a must-see.

The island will greet you with its clear water and peaceful environment.

It is definitely a great alternative to Boracay – less crowd, less noise and less cost.

If you want to just commune with nature and have a relaxing time at the beach, this is where you should go.

Seco Island

Seco Island, Antique

Seco Island in Tibiao, Antique is located in the middle of the open sea, which is why it doesn’t have much visitors compared to other islands in the region – but it is worth the visit.

It has no infrastructure but people say it is the most beautiful island in Antique.

It is also one of the top kiteboarding sites in the country, according to Yahoo News./PN
