MANILA – Malacañang insisted that Philippine National Police (PNP) officials did not get huge Christmas bonuses from President Rodrigo Duterte.

There is no truth to the revelation of an alleged PNP official through the media that the President handed them hefty bonuses in envelopes, according to Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella.

“Well, somebody is supposed to have said that sort of thing,” Abella said on Thursday, “but from my own source, like I shared with you, nothing was received from their end.”

“Nothing was received from their end, and nothing may be forthcoming, at least after that conversation yesterday (Wednesday),” he added.

The unnamed police official disclosed that they received a P100,000 Christmas bonus placed in an envelope on Monday at Camp Crame.

“It’s true. They’ve given it to us yesterday,” the alleged official said. “It’s given in cash. They had prepared the envelopes already. You just have to sign a list before claiming the money.”

Director General Ronald dela Rosa, PNP chief, first revealed the alleged Christmas bonus during the organization’s party on Monday. He said police officials will get from Duterte cash ranging from P100,000 to P400,000.

But he backtracked the following day, saying the officials will instead receive sacks of rice before New Year.
