ILOILO City – Some 400 public market stalls are up for adjudication by the Iloilo City Market Committee.
“These stalls were abandoned by their occupants or their occupants became delinquent or have arrears,” said Ariel Castaneda, Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) head.
LEEO is the city government office supervising the operation of public markets.
The stalls are in the Iloilo Central Market, Iloilo Terminal Market, and the public markets of Jaro, La Paz, Arevalo, and Mandurriao districts.
Those already possessing stalls will be given priority in the adjudication, said Castañeda.
The adjudication will be fair and free from corruption, he added.
“We will see to it that those given the privilege to rent public market stalls are deserving vendors,” stressed Castañeda.
City Administrator Hernando Galvez will convene the market committee as soon as the vendors’ associations have appointed their representatives to it, said Castañeda.
“Our City Administrator is very thorough,” said Castañeda.
The market committee is composed of representatives from vendors’ associations of various public markets, City Legal Office, LEEO, and City Treasurer’s Office./PN
