BACOLOD City – There will be no suspension of military operations against members of the New People’s Army (NPA) this holiday season.
Colonel Eliezer Losañes, commander of the 303rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, said this yesterday after receiving directives from higher military officials.
Losañes said he and his men are on full alert against NPA rebel forces in Negros Island.
He added that they are expecting tactical offensives from the NPA, especially that the rebel group will be celebrating its founding anniversary on Dec. 26.
Losañes said their operation will follow the orders of President Rodrigo Duterte, who earlier classified the NPA as a terrorist group.
Losañes added that they have yet to receive Duterte’s specific orders.
It has been a “tradition” between the NPA and the Army to declare ceasefire during the holidays – Christmas and New Year days – until this year./PN
