BORACAY – Authorities have to gather more evidence and testimonies to resolve the death of former Sangguniang Bayan member John Rondario of Malinao, Aklan.
Rondario, 50, was shot to death by two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen in Barangay San Roque, Malinao last week.
“Malaking kawalan siya sa Tibyog-Malinao local party, naging campaign manager namin si Rondario noong nakaraang eleksyon,” said town mayor Josephine Iguiban-Iquina.
She added that investigators of the Malinao municipal police station have yet to identify the suspects and the motive behind the killing.
For his part, vice mayor Wilbert Ariel Igoy urged the police to conduct fast and in-depth investigation on the incident.
“Itong insidente ay dapat ma-solve agad. Nanawagan tayo sa mga taga Malinao, sa mga witnesses, to cooperate sa ating awtoridad para maaresto ang mga suspek,” he said.
Rondario, also a former captain of the said village, was driving a motorcycle on his way home from a drinking spree with his friends in Barangay San Ramon when the suspects attacked him around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Recovered from the crime scene were four empty cartridges of a .45-caliber pistol.
Although initial investigations are looking into politics as the main motive of the killing, police are also not ruling out other possibilities.
Igoy said that the town’s local government unit (LGU) will give reward money to anyone who could provide information leading to the suspects’ arrest.
Yesterday, the Malinao LGU hoisted the Philippine flag at the municipal hall at half–mast to mourn Rondario’s death. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
