ILOILO City – There are no evacuees from Marawi City seeking refuge in Iloilo, according to the Police Regional Office 6.
Police have not monitored any resident from the besieged capital of Lanao del Sur entering Iloilo city or province, said the regional police director Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag.
But Binag said they are coordinating with Muslim communities in monitoring the possible entry of Marawi evacuees in Iloilo. He said they do not discount the possibility that Muslims here have relatives in the south.
Binag assured that the police will extend the necessary help to those who will move to Iloilo to escape the ongoing conflict in Marawi.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6, on the other hand, has not yet received any Marawi resident seeking for help.
But the agency is willing to provide aid to the victims of the conflict, including transportation and counseling, if any of them approaches the regional office, Information Officer May Grecia-Rago said.
Meanwhile the Aklan police director Senior Superintendent Lope Manlapaz confirmed there are Marawi evacuees in their province, particularly in Ibajay town and Boracay Island in Malay.
Twelve already returned to Mindanao. Only seven remained, Manlapaz told Panay News in a phone interview.
“Umpisa ng mangyari iyong gulo sa Mindanao, unti-unti silang pumupunta dito sa Aklan,” he said. “Pero sa ngayon ang iba bumabalik na rin dahil hindi na rin naman magulo.”
The Muslim community in Aklan attended to the evacuees, said Manlapaz.
Manlapaz said the police consistently monitor Muslims entering Aklan with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and local government units./PN
