BACOLOD City – Starting today the whole of Araneta and Magsaysay streets will be open to traffic again despite the ongoing construction of a flyover.

The flyover is nearing completion, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Rep. Greg Gasataya said DPWH told him the flyover is almost 65 percent complete.

“It means they are working on schedule,” said Gasataya. DPWH also told him that the construction will be completed in November.

“I asked them (DPWH) if it (the flyover) can be finished in October for MassKara Festival but they said they can’t. They have to follow the schedule,” said Gasataya.

The flyover has a P367-million budget. Gasataya believed that it is a necessary infrastructure in the city to address traffic congestion.

From Aug. 7 to 21, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) closed the roads along Magsaysay and Araneta streets from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Rerouting was also observed.

The BTAO also conducted a three-way road test on Lacson Street.

DPWH said they “want the contractors to work continuously while avoiding untoward incidents.”/PN
