ILOILO City – Western Visayas recorded no new positive cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) for two days in a row.
The region’s positive cases remained at 40 yesterday since April 12, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 in its COVID-19 Case Bulletin.
On April 13, all three laboratory tests conducted by the Western Visayas Medical Center sub-national laboratory came out negative for SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19.
Meanwhile, of the region’s 40 positive cases, 12 are still confined in hospitals and 14 are on home quarantine. Seven already recovered while seven others died.
Suspected cases in the region, on the other hand, were at 835 as of April 13.
The seven COVID-19 patients who recovered from the disease were the following:
* Patient No. 1 from Bacolod City
* Patient No. 2 from Guimbal, Iloilo
* Patient No. 3 from Mandurriao, Iloilo City
* Patient No. 4 from Jamindan, Capiz
* Patient No. 9 from Bacolod City
* Patient No. 12 from Miag-ao, Iloilo
* Patient No. 15 from E. B Magalona, Negros Occidental.
For the national tally, there are now over 5,000 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country. DOH reported 291 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the country’s total cases to 5,223 as of 4 p.m. yesterday.
The disease has also claimed the life of 20 more individuals, bringing the COVID-19 death toll to 335.
The DOH also recorded 53 new recoveries, raising the total of patients beating COVID-19 to 295.
According to the World Health Organization, most people (about 80 percent) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
However, older people and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes are more likely to develop serious illness.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.
These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
