BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) is strictly enforcing laws in line with the national government’s Iwas Paputok 2017 program.
Nocppo director Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr. said his men are monitoring violators of Republic Act 7183, which regulates the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices, and President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order 28, which also regulates the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
Castil added that Nocppo is closely monitoring gun owners in Negros Occidental.
Police Regional Office 6 has earlier sent a directive to all police chiefs in Western Visayas that a “one-strike policy” will be observed on incidents involving stray bullets.
As of this writing, Nocppo has yet to record incidents involving stray bullets.
In a statement, Nocppo reminded the public that those who will be caught indiscriminately firing their guns – whether uniformed personnel or civilian – will face charges.
All agencies and offices under the Philippine National Police, the Department of Health and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) are working with each other to achieve “zero firecracker-related incidents and damage to property cases” this holiday season, Castil said.
Nocppo encourages the public to use safe merrymaking instruments and alternative noise-makers.
It also reminded parents to properly guide their children.
Moreover, Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, head of the cluster on sectoral concerns, said the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the BFP will conduct another inspection of stalls next week to make sure that they follow fire safety measures.
Pineda added that vendors selling outside the designated firecrackers zone in the city will be penalized. Their products will also be confiscated.
The firecracker zone is located behind the Pope John Paul II Tower in the Reclamation Area.
“The monitoring team – along with the BFP and BCPO – will be deployed to various areas to confiscate illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices,” Pineda added./PN
