KALIBO, Aklan – Rescue organizations and towns in Aklan were named Gawad Kalasag regional awardees by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
Boracay Fire and Rescue Volunteers won first place in the Volunteer Organization category and the municipality of Malay was first place in the First- to Third-class Municipality category.
Panay Health Care Multipurpose Cooperative in this capital town was declared the Best Private Hospital while Aklan was second place in the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management category.
Other awardees were the municipality of Malinao in Fourth- to Sixth-class Municipality category, Special Operations Unit of Kalibo in the Advance Search and Rescue category, and Saint Gabriel College in the Institution category.
The awardees will receive their plaque of recognition and cash award from OCD regional director Rosario Cabrera and Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, OCD administrator and executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, on Aug. 4 at Smallville 21 Hotel in Iloilo City.
