BACOLOD City – A labor group leader in Negros Occidental is pushing for the immediate implementation of the wage hike as soon as it is approved.

Winnie Sancho, secretary-general of the General Alliance of Workers Association, worries that workers may not feel the salary increase if another oil price increase takes effect.

Sancho made the comment in light of the recent series of oil price increases.

He said their organization appealed to the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Western Visayas to issue the implementation guidelines for the new wage order as soon as possible.

Sancho told Panay News the RTWPB already sent the draft order to the National Wages and Productivity Commission for review. After that, the commission will send it back to the regional wage board for signing.

A source told this reporter the salary increase would be between P15 and P30 daily. It will be added to the current daily wage of P289.50.

“They should not wait for another oil price hike or else the wage hike will be useless,” Sancho stressed.

Sancho said RTWPB chairperson Salome Siaton will make an official announcement on the wage increase./PN
