ARCHER Natina Okamoto spearheaded Area 8’s domination in the Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan with five gold medals at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

Okamoto ruled the 30m, 40m, fita, 50m, and 60m categories in secondary girls’ archery on Wednesday. Area 8 (NOPSSCEA) was currently on top of the tally with 22 gold, 16 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Area 8 also ruled swimming with 15 gold medals, including from Martina Cadagat, Samantha Seculan, Arianna Lim, Regan Garbanzos, Rafael Uy Jr., Mary Lacson, Ignacio Locsin, and Merced Rojo.

Bernalyn Bejoy, meanwhile, took home two gold medals for Area 7 after ruling the secondary girls’ 400m run and 400m hurdles.

Also winning gold medals for Area 7 were Trexie Dela Torre in long jump, Jennifer Hudieres in 100m hurdles and Charles Largavista in 400m hurdles.

Area 7 also had first place finishes with archers Jubil Reign Villaruel (50m and fita) and Ian Dayot (30m), and swimmer Toby Concon. As of this writing, the delegation has a 12-13-12 medal haul.

Area 3 ranks third in the standings with 8-14-10 medals. Three of the golds were from Alexi Cabayaran of elementary girls’ swimming and John Sayon (two) in secondary boys’ swimming.

On fourth place was Area 6 with 8-4-4 medals, six were from athletics’ Charry Villanueva (3000m run), John Mediano (long jump), Kei Eliseo (javelin throw), Cherrilyn Santiago and Jey Dieta (400m hurdles), and Michael Buscano (triple jump).

Rounding out the rankings as of yesterday morning) are Area 4 (6-10-10), Area 5 (5-2-6), Area 2 (4-7-6), Area 1 (3-2-7), and Area 9 (0-0-3)./PN
