BACOLOD City – Criminal investigation against Mayor Evelio Leonardia and seven others will proceed, the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas said.
Its field investigation office found enough basis for the complaint filed by Sarah Teresa Esguerra and Othello Ramos against Leonardia, Renecito Novero, Lorendo Dilag, Goldwyn Nifras, Eduardo Ravena, Ricardo Dahil-dahil, Jude Thaddeus Sayson, and Rogelio Balo.
The complaint was based on the Commission on Audit annual report for 2007.
Esguerra and Othello accused the eight of purchasing goods worth P9,338,747.37 without public bidding, in violation of the Government Procurement Reform Act.
Charges for graft and corruption, and grave misconduct were filed against Leonardia, Ravena, Nifras, Novero, and Dilag while Sayson, Balo and Dahil-dahil face anti-graft and corruption charges.
They were given 10 days to file their counter-affidavits and other controverting evidence, the Ombudsman order dated June 9 stated./PN
