BACOLOD City – A 38-year-old meat vendor died after his motorcycle was hit by a truck loaded with sugarcane in Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City, Negros Occidental early Friday morning.
Worldstel Cañete, a resident of the city’s Osmeña St., Barangay Poblacion 1, sustained fatal head and body injuries.
Sagay City police said the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
According to Police Lieutenant Hanna Banquil, deputy chief of the Sagay City Police Station, the truck driver was identified as Jonas Ardemer, 39, and a resident of Sitio Aglolomot, Barangay San Jose, Toboso town.
Banquil said the truck was heading to Toboso from Bago City when the accident happened.
Ardemer was detained at the Sagay City Police Station.
As of this writing, the police were still waiting for the decision of the victim’s family for the possible settlement with the truck driver./PN
