SAN JOSE, Antique – More than 1,000 senior citizens received assistance from capitol in 2017, according to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

The Senior Citizens Welfare and Development Program “Kabalaka kang Gobernadora kay Lolo Kag Lola sa Probinsya” had a P3.4 million budget, PSWDO head Lazaro Petinglay said.

“The program was intended to address the issue of aging by catching the hearts of the elderly in their twilight years,” Petinglay said.

Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, who designed the program, personally handed the aid to the beneficiaries.

In addition, around 5,000 attended the Senior Citizens Congress 2017 in Libertad town last December.

Cadiao gave plaques to outstanding senior citizens and led the distribution of medicines and gift packs.

“Based on their testimonies, they (senior citizens) were inspired and fulfilled that they were acknowledged as indispensable contributors to nation-building,” Petinglay said. (Carlson B. Alelis, PIA/PN)
