MANILA – More than 700 infrastructure projects worth P5.715 billion were completed in Western Visayas in 2017, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
A total of 1,084 projects with a budget of P23.310 billion were programmed in the region under the 2017 Regular Infra Program, Regional Director Wenceslao Leaño Jr. said in a statement.
These included roads, bridges, flood control structures, and other infrastructures like roads leading to tourism areas in Panay, Negros and Guimaras islands.
Of these, 727 were carried out, among them were:
* 113.19 kilometers of national roads – P2.270 billion
* 528.13 lineal meters of bridges – P485.576 million
* 40 flood control projects – P928.142 million
* 17.26 kilometers of roads leading to tourism destinations – P351.715 million
* 532 other infra projects – P117.300 million
A total of 342 projects were ongoing in Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental provinces.
Likewise, the DPWH Region 6 completed 40 projects or 20.53 kilometers of farm-to-market road with a total value of P189 million funded by the Department of Agriculture.
This year the regional has a budget of P31.956 billion, about 37 percent higher than its 2017 budget. (PNA)
