ILOILO – The municipal government of Pototan is offering a P200,000 reward to whoever could give information leading to the arrest of fugitive drug suspect Ernesto Bolivar.
Bolivar, a resident of Barangay Guinacas, Pototan, has a standing arrest warrant for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. He was subjected to a buy-bust operation at his house last Nov. 9, 2016 but managed to escape.
The Sangguniang Bayan of Pototan agreed to allot a bounty following the appeal of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag.
Bolivar is a suspected subgroup leader of slain drug lord Richard Prevendido. The Bolivar group operates in central Iloilo and Capiz province, according to the regional police office.
After Prevendido was killed in a shootout with policemen in Barangay Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City on Sept. 1, the PRO-6 named Bolivar its next priority target in the campaign against illegal drugs.
According to Binag, the reward scheme that led to the neutralization of Prevendido should be replicated in operations targeting other fugitive drug suspects.
“Para magpursige pa ang ating kapulisan,” he explained.
The city and provincial governments of Iloilo each released P500,000 reward money to two informants whose tips to the police led to Prevendido’s neutralization.
“We truly appreciate the provincial government’s cash reward. Sana nga lahat ng ating local government units will have a similar incentive scheme…kasi bawat probinsya may mga wanted persons,” said Binag.
One of the informants in the operation to take down Prevendido was a police “asset” while the other was an ally of the drug lord but decided to cooperate with the police./PN
