ILOILO City – A councilman of Barangay Fajardo, Jaro district faces administrative and criminal charges following a vehicular accident.
“Kay may aksidente dapat gin buligan n’ya ang biktima, indi kay i-harass na pa kag pwersahon nya nga i-open ang salakyan,” said the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in the city, Reyland Hervias.
Hervias was referring to the 55-year-old Rey Hulleza, councilman of Barangay Fajardo whom three personnel of Panay News complained of threats and harassment at the Jaro police station past midnight on Sunday.
According to Panay News general manager Caryl Espada, Hulleza threatened to harm her at the Jaro police station where she visited a company personnel who figured in a vehicular accident on Fajardo Street past midnight on Sunday.
“Palokpon ko bagol mo,” Espada quoted Hulleza as telling her, in the police blotter.
Hulleza was drunk, according to Espada.
An administrative complaint would be filed against Hulleza before the Department of Interior and Local Government and a criminal complaint for threats at the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office.
“Wala sia authority to conduct an inspection to private cars. Besides, he was not involved in the car accident,” said Hervias.
The company personnel who was driving the Panay News patrol car, Jezreel Fajardo, also had Hulleza blottered at the Jaro police station.
The councilman threatened him with a gun instead of offering help when the patrol car he was driving hit an electric post, according to Fajardo.
Hulleza appeared drunk, he added, and demanded to confiscate his driver’s license and search the patrol car.
Newsboy Rian Palumbarit, who proceeded to Fajardo Street after Fajardo called him up for help following the accident, complained to the Jaro police station that Hulleza threatened him, too, with a gun.
Responding Jaro policemen took Hulleza and Fajardo to the Jaro police station.
“If it’s true that he acted arrogantly and threatened the media, he would be liable of criminal and administrative cases. We are not tolerating that kind of actions. Gin hambal ko na sa ila kay gin hatagan kita extension nga mag pangalagad sa pumuluyo, dapat maayo man ang ipakita naton sa pumuluyo,” said Hervias./PN
