BACOLOD City – Isabela town in Negros Occidental will spend P3.2 million to improve the Glory Hill in Barangay Mansablay.
A 45-feet tall cross that serves as a municipal landmark stands at the Glory Hill.
Mayor Enrique Montilla said the local government is preparing a master plan for the development of the area as a local tourist destination.
“Glory Hill has a lot of potential,” said the mayor.
The Municipal Development Council approved the allocation during a recent meeting.
During the Lenten season last year, around 10,000 domestic and foreign tourists went up the Glory Hill to see the giant cross, Montilla said.
Before reaching the giant cross, visitors will have to pass by 14 Stations of the Cross, which serve as guide and prayer areas when going up the hill via a concrete stairway with bamboos planted on the edges.
Montilla said he created a “Holy Cross Committee,” comprising around 20 people, to work on the development of the Glory Hill. “[We hope] everything will be in place by 2018,” said the mayor.
The P2-million budget for the eco-park and the local government’s problems on garbage, drainage and irrigation were also discussed during the meeting./PN
