ROXAS City – Around half a million pesos worth of suspected shabu was seized in a drug buy-bust operation here before midnight on Jan. 19.
Six drug suspects were also arrested. They were Jan Drew Villanueva, John Kleny Bermejo and Julex Alisla (all residents of Mejorada Subdivision, Barangay Inzo Arnaldo Village); Elmer Arrojado of Barangay Banica; Eugene Danieles of Barangay Baybay and Rogel Jose of Barangay Burgos Ilawod.
Police said a suspect named Anthony Tullo of San Roque Street, Roxas City was able to evade arrest.
The operation yielded a total of14 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 70 grams and with an estimated market value of P500,000; the buy-bust money worth P40,500; and bundle of money worth P40,000.
The suspects were endorsed to the Police Regional Office 6 and will be facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The buy-bust operation was carried out by the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of the Capiz Police Provincial Office.
Shabu is the slang term for the illegal drug methamphetamine hydrochloride. In the mid-1980s it was introduced into the fringe circle of use in the Philippines. In less than two decades, it has broken out of the urban subcultures and gained access into the rural communities with devastating impact.
Once a person becomes addicted to shabu, there will be long lasting, harmful side effects. They may have rapid changes in their mood, disinterest in activities, hallucinations, paranoia, constant confusion, insomnia, violent thoughts, extreme weight loss, respiratory problems, inflammation of the lining in the heart, and it can be fatal./PN
