ILOILO City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 spent almost P6 billion for its various programs in Western Visayas this year.
In a year-end report, Regional Director Rebecca Geamala said the P5,907,231,034 represents the “total obligations incurred,” or 86.20 percent of the P6.8-billion allotment from the central office.
The DSWD-6 disbursed P258,537,765.08 for the 193,512 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) — the government’s flagship poverty-alleviation program — as of Nov. 30.
Through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services, or Kalahi-CIDSS, 3,016 projects have been completed. Total disbursement reached P428,012,679.90.
Under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), the agency served 7,208 participants for 2016 and carried out livelihood programs for the 56,469 spillover beneficiaries from 2015.
Still under SLP, it has accredited 39 Pamana (Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan) associations and released a P26-million Japan Social Development Fund grant.
The agency also partnered with the National Irrigation Association for the employment of at least 6,000 4Ps beneficiaries for the construction of the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project Stage II.
All 78,706 poor senior citizen beneficiaries were served under the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens program. Total disbursement reached P472,236,000.
Meanwhile the DSWD-6’s supplementary feeding program served 131,741 beneficiaries (target was 127,617). The agency spent P379,404,506.78.
Its Crisis Intervention Unit served 48,164 clients, spending P233,023,006.17.
The DSWD-6 also responded to disasters.
Under its Disaster Risk Reduction program, it provided 9,047 food packs worth P3,247,873 to red tide-affected towns; 100,973 food packs worth P36,249,307 to El Niño-affected towns; 800 food packs to families of affected by typhoon “Marce” in Capiz; and 500 food packs for typhoon-affected families in the component city of Passi in Iloilo./PN
