ILOILO – The Passi City Government has granted a P150,000 cash incentive to a newly turned 100-year-old resident, making it the first local government unit (LGU) in Iloilo Province to provide an additional six-figure benefit on top of the national government’s centenarian grant of P100,000.
Eleuteria David of Barangay Mambiranan Pequeño received the cash gift personally from Mayor Stephen Palmares during a visit on Feb. 21, joined by City Social Welfare and Development Officer Evelyn Payas and Office of the Senior Citizens’ Affairs head Dr. Elgita Fernandez.
The P150,000 incentive was made possible through an ordinance passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod amending City Ordinance No. 2023-047, increasing the city’s centenarian gift from P100,000 to P150,000.
City officials said the adjustment reflects the local government’s commitment to extending stronger financial support to senior citizens amid rising living costs.
Passi City now stands as the first LGU in Iloilo to grant an additional P150,000 cash gift on top of the national government’s benefits, which include a P100,000 cash incentive, a letter of felicitation signed by the President, and a certificate of recognition.
Through the initiative, the city government underscored its continuing effort to honor senior citizens not only for reaching a rare milestone but also for the legacy, wisdom, and inspiration they impart to the community./PN
