ILOILO City – A security guard pretended to be asleep before arresting a man he claimed was trying to steal a motorcycle from a store on corner Delgado-Mabini streets, Barangay San Agustin, City Proper.

With the help of officers on patrol, security guard Erwin Cabarles accosted the 22-year-old Jaypee Palmes of Passi City and turned him over to Police Station 1, a police report showed.

Cabarles told the police he was on his post at EMCOR, Inc. at around 2 a.m. on Feb. 11 when he saw Palmes trying to take one of the store’s display motorcycles but he could not because it was locked.

Palmes then managed to move another unit, a Honda XRM 125. Cabarles said he pretended to be asleep until Palmes reached the rope cordoning the display motorcycles.

A resident of Barangay Dalicanan, Passi City, Palmes was detained at the Police Station 1 custodial facility.

The police report showed he faces charges for violation of the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016./PN
