ANTIQUE — The local government of Patnongon has officially inaugurated its newly upgraded public market, which officials are positioning as a new economic hub to boost trade and livelihood in the municipality.
Antique Governor Paolo Javier joined municipal officials on Tuesday, January 6, in the inauguration and turnover of the Patnongon New Public Market, led by Mayor Johnnyflores Bacongallo. The ceremony included a blessing of the facility and the formal opening of new market stalls to the public.
Bacongallo said the market is now fully operational and is expected to play a major role in strengthening the town’s local economy.
“The market is now ready for use and will greatly contribute to our local economy. We will ensure that it is well-maintained and continuously improved to become a progressive center of commerce,” the mayor said, adding that he hopes the facility will become one of Antique’s key economic hubs.
Gov. Javier described the market as a vital driver of economic growth and pledged additional provincial support, including a P20-million budget for the construction of a dedicated vegetable section within the market complex.
He cited the continuing development initiatives of the municipal leadership, including projects started under former mayor Evohn Baldestamon, now carried on by the current administration.
Market vendors have already begun operating in the new facility after the local government awarded stalls to qualified tenants in December.
Local officials said the public market is expected to attract more consumers, stimulate local trade, and improve access to basic goods, particularly agricultural products from nearby communities./PN
