ANTIPOLO City – Blackwater Elite pulled away from a tight start to score a lopsided 118-97 victory over Kia Picanto in the 2017 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Ynares Center here.
Reinforcement Henry Walker led the way with 25 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.
With an even 4-4 win-loss slate, the Elite moved up to eighth place in the standings.
Michael Digregorio and John Paul Erram chipped in with 16 points apiece while Rommel Nino Canaleta and rookie Raphael Banal had 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Elite were shorthanded heading into the game as newcomers Chris Ellis and Dave Marcelo, who were acquired in a trade with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings for Arthur Dela Cruz and Raymond Aguilar, did not suit up yet.
From a tight exchange early in the opening frame, the Elite suddenly pulled away on three-pointers by Digregorio, Walker, Riego Gamalinda and Nard John Pinto for a 40-21 advantage.
The lead grew further in the second quarter with three-point conversions from Canaleta and Banal to build its largest lead of the match at 86-37 on an inside hit by Erram and Gamalinda.
“We noticed that we lacked energy in our previous game so that was what we pointed out during our practice. True enough, we had a lot of energy against Kia,” said Elite head coach Leo Isaac.
Meanwhile, import Geron Johnson finished with 28 points while Philip Paniamogan and Negrense Mark Yee added 17 and 14 points, respectively, for the Picanto which dropped to 0-8 record.
