PBA: TNT blasts SMB, gains twice-to-beat in Govs’ Cup q’finals

MANILA – TNT KaTropa put San Miguel Beermen’s grand slam bid in peril with a 114-109 victory in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

KJ McDaniels finished with 44 points and 12 rebounds. Jeth Troy Rosario added 30 points and 10 boards, while Roger Pogoy and Jayson Castro had 17 and 12, respectively.

For finishing the elimination round with 8-3 win-loss record, the KaTropa ended at No. 3 spot with twice-to-beat incentive against No.6 seed and defending champions Magnolia Hotshots.

The Beermen, on the other hand, ended up with 7-4 record for a No. 5 seeding and has twice-to-win disadvantage against No.4 ranked Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings.

In the first game, Alaska Aces (5-6) notched the No. 7 seed in the quarterfinals after a 106-90 victory over NLEX Road Warriors. They have a win twice disadvantage against No. 2 Meralco Bolts.

Franko House tallied 24 points while Abu Tratter, Jvee Casio and Kevin Racal had 12 points each as the Aces heads to post season with four-game winning run.

The Road Warriors had a strong start and were up 14-7 but the Aces answered with a run behind Simon Enciso and Robbie Herndon to seize a 33-23 advantage.

The lead grew to 20 points for Alaska in the second period with inside hits from House before maintaining the upperhand in the second half that reached its largest at 22 points.

Manny Harris finished with 22 points, while John Paul Erram had 19 markers for the no. 1 seed Road Warriors, which has twice-to-beat edge over no. 8 NorthPort Batang Pier./PN
