MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will seek deeper Singaporean investments and cooperation in technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy and other emerging industries during a four-day working visit to Singapore beginning today.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Marcos will hold talks with Singapore Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong during the visit, which will run until October 11, as Manila moves to strengthen economic ties with one of its key Southeast Asian partners.
DFA Assistant Secretary Analyn Raton said the visit is expected to broaden cooperation between the Philippines and Singapore and create new opportunities in sectors considered crucial to the country’s development.
“This working visit is part of the country’s initiative to deepen our ties with Singapore, expand our economic engagement, and advance our cooperation in sectors that will contribute to our country’s development,” said Raton.
Raton said discussions are expected to focus on technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy and healthcare, among other areas where the two countries could expand cooperation.
The Philippines and Singapore are also expected to explore opportunities in the green economy and smart infrastructure as Manila seeks partnerships and investments in industries that could support long-term economic growth and modernization.
Marcos will also meet members of Singapore’s business community in an effort to strengthen investment and commercial links between the two countries.
Joining the President on the trip are Finance Secretary Frederick Go, Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque and Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez.
The working visit will coincide with the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. Marcos has previously attended the Formula 1 event in Singapore./PN
