MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has made it clear that he will not intervene in the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, stating that his priority remains addressing the country’s pressing needs.

In the latest episode of his official podcast aired Saturday, Marcos emphasized that matters concerning the impeachment complaint are under the sole jurisdiction of Congress and not the Office of the President.

“Siguro, if the president chooses to do that, I choose not to,” Marcos said. “I’m busy with the transport, with the rice, all of the different things that we are doing, nauubos ang oras ko doon. Wala naman akong papel sa impeachment.”

The Presidential Communications Office echoed this position, with Undersecretary Claire Castro stating that the President does not intend to make any move that might be interpreted as interference.

She noted that President Marcos is instead open to discussions on issues more directly affecting Filipinos, such as infrastructure, food security, and economic stability.

Meanwhile, Malacañang has called on the Senate to weigh the potential economic impact of any delays in the impeachment trial. This follows an appeal from the Makati Business Club, which urged the Senate to fulfill its constitutional duty, warning that a failure to uphold the rule of law could undermine investor confidence in the Philippines./PN
