MANILA – Tackling an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio will take up the time of lawmakers, according to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
He had urged members of the House of Representatives not to file an impeachment complaint.
“Well, it was actually a private conversation, but na-leak na, yes. Because that’s really my opinion. That is not important. This does not make a difference to even one single Filipino life,” Marcos said in an interview in Lucena, Quezon.
“What will happen if somebody files an impeachment? It will tie down the House, it will tie down the Senate. It will just take up all our time and for what?” he added.
“None of this will help improve a single Filipino life. So why waste time on it?” President Marcos further said.
Meanwhile, despite President Marcos’ statement, a member of the House said they will push through with the filing of impeachment against Duterte-Carpio next month.
“Meron nang gumagawa. Bayan [Partylist ang gumagawa]. Kung matatapos namin, maraming signatories, hindi lang sa Bayan. [Multi-sectoral]. I think kaya naman [before the year ends],” ACT Teachers party-list’s Cong. France Castro said in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo on Friday.
Castro said Duterte-Carpio must answer for alleged misuse of confidential funds entrusted to her under the Department of Education and Office of the Vice President.
She also believes there are enough numbers in the Lower House to impeach Duterte-Carpio and send the complaint to the Senate.
“Natatantya naman namin na meron dito sa House of Representatives. Kino-consider din natin ang number sa ngayon para siyempre maipanalo, mai-push natin itong impeachment. Tinitingnan din natin ‘yung bilang sa Senado kung sino ‘yung pwedeng pumayag sa impeachment,” she said.
Duterte-Carpio revealed last August that there is a plot in the House to impeach her amid the ongoing investigation on the use of the P125 million confidential funds which is not in the 2022 General Appropriations Act./PN
