ILOILO City – Antidrug agents arrested a daughter-in-law of Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo in a buy-bust operation in Jaro district.
The 28-year-old Stella Joy Peñaredondo was a newly identified drug personality, according to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 assistant regional director Levi Ortiz.
She sold to an undercover agent a sachet of suspected shabu for P300 around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24 in her house in Villa Consolacion, McArthur Drive, Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro.
More or less 6 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P30,000 were further seized from her.
Stella Joy Peñaredondo’s name was one of those a “walk-in informant” gave the PDEA, Ortiz told Panay News.
“We held a test buy to confirm her involvement in the drug trade” before the buy-bust, Ortiz told this reporter.
Peñaredondo was hauled to the PDEA Region 6 detention facility in Fort San Pedro.
She was facing charges for violation of sections 5 (sale) and 11 (possession) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
She had been using drugs since 2011, but the PDEA discovered only recently that she was peddling, too, Ortiz claimed.
Panay News learned that Peñaredondo was about to follow her husband in the United States.
Ortiz clarified that Councilor Peñaredondo was not involved in the drug trade.
“Let me just make it clear na walang kinalaman si councilor sa drug trade,” said Ortiz. “In fact, para ngang nabigla si konsehal na ang daughter-in-law niya involved.”
Panay News tried to reach Councilor Peñaredondo for comment, but his mobile phone number cannot be reached.
Ortiz encouraged politicians with relatives involved in the drug trade to report the latter to the antidrug agency.
“Sana magtulongan tayo,” he said. “Feel free to report. We will act on it and at the same time treat it with confidentiality.”/PN
