Petron deals F2 Logistics 1st loss in PH Superliga

MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers overcame a two-set deficit to score a 26-28, 27-29, 25-19, 25-20, 15-6 victory over F2 Logistics Cargo Movers in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the San Juan Arena.


Cherry Rondina waxed hot with 22 points off 21 kills on Thursday night.

Frances Molina and Negrense Bernadeth Pons added 20 and 16 markers, respectively.

With the victory, the Blaze Spikers grabbed the solo first place with 12-1 win-loss slate.


Mika Reyes was also instrumental with 10 markers. Rhea Dimaculangan dished out 32 excellent sets on top of four markers. Denise Lazaro was tremendous defensively with 29 digs and excellent receptions.


After losing the first two sets, Rondina led the Blaze Spikers’ comeback. She caught fire in the third set and her tandem with Pons worked wonders in the fourth frame to force a decider.


The defending champions were on a roll in the fifth set. Dimaculangan’s fine setting embarked a strong start while the Cargo Movers committed four straight miscues. giving the Blaze Spikers a formidable 10-0 spread.


“When we went down, of course, we were disappointed. But in both sets we’re just short of two points,” said Blaze Spikers head coach Shaq Delos Santos. “But I told them not to give up and take it one set at a time.”


Kalei Mau had triple-double 25 points, 22 digs and 10 excellent receptions while Mary Joy Baron delivered 15 points and Victorinara Galang had 14 markers as the Cargo Movers dropped to 11-1./PN
