MANILA – Kaya Iloilo’s winning run in the 2018 Philippines Football League was snapped by a 1-3 defeat to Davao Aguilas on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Even with the loss, the Ilonggos stayed on second place with 23 points on seven wins, two draws and four defeats while Aguilas remained on third place, also with 23 points but on seven wins, two draws and six defeats.

Aguilas drew first blood with Kim Sung-min draining a header from a pass by Phil Younghusband in the 25th minute. Kaya was able to tie the count just before the break courtesy of Robert Lopez Mendy’s close-range hit.

Aguilas regained the advantage in the second half with a header from Tyler Matas in the 75th minute before sealing the deal 10 minutes later on a close-range shot by Younghusband.

“Davao is a really dangerous team when it comes to overloading in attack,” said Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida. “We will face them again on Saturday. We will just [learn from] our mistakes.”

In the 30th minute the match was halted for over an hour when the stadium was flooded. Aguilas was holding on to a slim 1-0 advantage at the time.

Meanwhile Carlo Polli fired two goals as Stallion Laguna vented its ire on the struggling Global Cebu with a 4-0 domination over at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.

Stallion came out firing in the opening half with back-to-back hits from Abou Mouhamed Sy and Polli for a 2-0 lead. The host team continued its domination in the second half with a goal each from Fitch Arboleda and Polli.
