CERES Negros will play host to Kaya Makati in the first leg of the Philippines Football League semifinals tonight at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
In their four matches this season, the Negros Occidental-based squad scored three wins – 3-1 on June 24, 3-2 on Aug. 12 and 3-2 on Oct. 14. Kaya managed to force a 1-1 deadlock in their May 6 encounter.
Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic is wary of their semifinals opponents, which pulled off numerous upset victories in the season.
“We cannot take them for granted,” Vidakovic said. “Kaya is also a tough team so we need to play our best to have the upper hand in this series. We also want to perform well in front of our home fans.”
Ceres is also expected to be at it full-strength with Bienvenido Marañon, Manuel Herrera, Kevin Ingreso, Manuel Ott, Fernando Rodriguez, Stephan Schrock, Luke Woodland, Omid Nazari, Martin Steuble, and Jeffrey Christiaens returning.
Also with the team are Ronald Muller, Kota Kawase, Jose Elmer Porteria, Iain Ramsay, Joshua Grommen, Carlos de Murga, Arnie Pasinabo, Jim Munoz, Joshua Dutosme, Louie Casas, Patrick Reichelt, and Nessi Ramos.
Kaya will have a loaded roster, too, with Jordan Mintah, Ref Cuaresma, Adam Reed, Jovin Bedic, Kenshiro Daniels, Robert Lopez Mendy, Eric Giganto, and Janrick Soriano.
Ceres and Kaya will play in a two-leg home-and-away format. The team that scores the most goals after will move on to the finals.
In case of the tie, the away goals rule will kick in – the team that scored the most goals in their away game will progress. If both teams are still tied, the match will proceed to extra time and to penalties if necessary./PN
