MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) said there is a huge improvement in the country’s response of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Citing global rankings in terms of total cases, active cases, mortality and case fatality rate, DOH secretary Francisco Duque said the country ranked 32nd in terms of COVID-19 cases in the global list after being at number 18 in October last year.
“Mataas na mataas ‘yong bilang ng kaso natin. Noong dumaan ang November at December at napalakas po natin ang ating pandemic response with the help of local government units and also the discipline and the compliance of our citizens with our minimum public health standards kaya bumaba na po ang ranking natin,” Duque said on Monday.
In terms of active cases, Duque said the country ranked 44thwith 27,992 cases compared to 51,241 active cases of Malaysia, and 176,291 cases of Indonesia.
According to him, in terms of COVID-19 cases per million population, the country is at 134th rank with 4,987 cases; in fatalities per million, the country ranked 114th with 101 deaths per million; and in case of fatality rate, the country is in 73 with 2.2 percent.
As of now, the country has already allocated P73.2 billion for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines, with P40 billion coming from multilateral agencies, P20 billion from domestic sources, and P13.2 billion from bilateral agreements./PN
