MANILA – Mighty Sports-Go for Gold Philippines cruised to its second straight victory in the 41st William Jones Cup with a 90-74 blowout over Jordan on Saturday at the Changhua County Gymnasium in Taiwan.

Eugene Phelps top-scored with 20 points, while Renaldo Balkman and Roosevelt Adams chipped in 17 and 11 markers, respectively, for the Philippine squad, which improves to 2-0 slate.

Just like in their match against Iran U-23, the Philippine squad was off to a strong start with a 10-2 scoring run in the opening quarter for a 21-14 edge on a three-point play by Balkman.

The Philippines continued its surge in the second period with Phelps converting nine straight points and Adams also having his share on offense for a 44-29 advantage at the half.

The Philippines went on to build its largest lead at 68-44 late in the third period after back-to-back triples by Mikey Williams. Jordan made its last push in the fourth but could only come to as close as 16 markers.

Ibrahim Fadi led Jordan in the losing effort with 13 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Hashem Abbas and Yousef Abu Wazaneh added 12 and 11 markers, respectively./PN
