MANILA – Regional rivals Kaya Futbol Club Iloilo and Ceres Negros FC are set to square off in the 2019 Philippines Football League this afternoon at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
The match is slated at 3:30 pm where Kaya Iloilo hopes to pad its advantage in the standings, while the defending champions Ceres Negros aims to force a deadlock for the No. 1 spot.
Kaya Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida said he expects his players to bounce back following their worst performance this season – a scoreless draw with Green Archers United FC over the weekend.
“Kaya-Iloilo and Ceres-Negros is an interesting game knowing that it’s a battle between first and second. The Negros and Iloilo match is always a rivalry. It’s called the Visayas Clasico historically for a reason,” Marcaida said.
“We will keep the same intensity as we have brought in the previous games,” added the veteran mentor. “Also we have to improve on our mistakes (against Green Archers). It is not enough that we hold our opponent scoreless. We also must score.”
Ceres Negros, on the other hand, will be entering the match as the fresher team as its scheduled match last Saturday against Stallion-Laguna FC was postponed due to inclement weather.
In its previous match a week ago, the defending champions Busmen survived a late run by the Green Archers United to escape with a 4-3 win for a total of 13 points after five games./PN
