MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC vented its ire on Mendiola 1991 FC with a 4-0 blanking in the 2019 Philippines Football League on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium here.

Days after ending its 2019 AFC Cup stint, the Negros Occidental-based football team were all business with Spanish striker Bienvenido Maranon nailing two goals and Curt Dizon adding another one.

It only took two minutes before the Busmen drew first blood in the game as Stephan Schrock floated the ball towards Maranon, who headed the ball towards the defense of Mendiola.

The lead was quickly doubled by Ceres-Negros at the 28th minute when Jeffrey Christaen’s cross was mishit by the defender for an own goal by Mendiola 1991’s Aljo Zabala.

Ceres-Negros has multiple opportunities to widen the advantage but are foiled by the defense. Mendiola 1991 also had chances to score before the halftime break but Busmen keeper Roland Muller’s defense was unpenetratable.

Dizon blasted one from the edge of the box to make it 3-0 for Ceres-Negros in the 65th minute before Maranon made it four 10 minutes later as Sean Kane delivered a cross to the Spaniard who had an easy tap-in.

With the victory, the Busmen has achieved its third victory in four matches to improve to 10 points, while Mendiola 1991 is at sixth spot with one point on one draw and four losses./PN
