ILOILO City – To promote public safety, all district plazas will be lighted and painted. These improvements would have been complete by Nov. 1.
The repainting and lighting were offshoots of Acting Mayor Jose Espinosa III’s directive to put additional lights at Jaro Plaza as a way to improve public safety.
City Engineer Roberto Divinagracia said some 20 Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps were being installed at Jaro Plaza.
City Engineer’s Office and Task Force Boltahe have been working on a two-week deadline given by Espinosa.
All plazas were also rid of kiosks selling ukay-ukay or used clothing.
Early this month, Espinosa announced that public plazas were off-limits to ukay-ukay as a “general rule.”
In banning ukay-ukay stalls plazas, Espinosa cited Republic Act 4653 (An Act to Safeguard the Health of the People and Maintain the Dignity of the Nation by Declaring it a National Policy to Prohibit the Commercial Importation of Textile Articles Commonly known as Used Clothing and Rags).
