MANILA – PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters added to F2 Logistics Cargo Movers’ misery with a 25-21, 26-28, 15-25, 25-19, 15-11 upset in the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Corpus Christi Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.

Gretchel Soltones posted triple-double of 21 points, 24 digs and 19 excellent receptions on Saturday while Jerrili Malabanan contributed 21 markers.

The Power Hitters improved to a 6-9 win-loss slate.
Setter Jasmine Nabor also made her presence felt for the Power Hitters with 31 excellent sets on top of six points.

Aiko Urdas added 10 markers and Alyssa Eroa protected the floor.

After surrendering the second and third set to the Cargo Movers, the Power Hitters started strong in the fourth set behind the tandem of Malabanan and Soltones to stretch the match to a deciding set.

Both teams traded hits in the fifth frame with the score tied at 9-all. Malabanan then scored three of the team’s four straight points to reach match point, 14-10, before Soltones ended the match with a kill.

“Everyone played well. Especially Jerrili, she really played great in the fifth set,” said Power Hitters head coach Roger Gorayeb. “We could have played at this level from the start but why only now? But it’s alright, we still have a chance next round.”

Kalei Mau erupted with 28 points including 19 digs and 10 excellent receptions while Victorinara Galang and Mary Joy Baron had 19 and 18 points, respectively, for the Cargo Movers (11-2)./PN
