ILOILO City – Panay News senior reporter Glenda S. Tayona bagged the gold of the 2021 Media Awards, one of the highlights of the 88th DOLE anniversary celebration.
The Awards recognized the outstanding published stories of DOLE’s programs and services that touched the lives of jobseekers, workers and employers, and the achievements of DOLE in the performance of its mandate as the country moves towards recovery from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Journalist Elyrose Naorbe of Iloilo Metropolitan Times bagged the silver award.
Tayona featured how DOLE’s CAMP (COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program) 2 and other programs and services helped the transportation sector and other affected workers during the pandemic.
Under the DOLE-CAMP, each beneficiary received P5,000 cash assistance.
At least 5,290 beneficiaries in Iloilo City benefited from the CAMP cash assistance distributed in August 2021.
On the other hand, the testimonies of TUPAD beneficiaries and the impact of the program to their lives was the centerpiece of Naorbe’s report.
During their courtesy visit at DOLE Regional Office 6, Regional Director Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr. congratulated the winners and said: “Kayo ay agents of truth at vanguard of justice and truthfulness. Try to influence others to do what is right and to do what is fair.”
Before becoming a full-pledged Regional Director, Atty. Rodriguez started as a job order personnel and was once an information officer.
“We should always act with justice, give everyone his due and act with justice and fairness. Despite of challenges sa trabaho, let justice be done, “ said Rodriguez.
He also thanked the members of media for the partnership that facilitates in bringing the government closer to the people.
Tayona expressed her appreciation to the Department for recognizing the contributions of the media as its partner in the delivery of its programs and services.
“Rest assured that we will continue to support all your undertakings and do our part in sharing this to the public,” Tayona said. (DOLE-6)/PN
