MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Rommel Marbil has opted to stay silent on the “open letter” recently released by Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio against him.
According to PNP spokesperson Jean Fajardo, instead of answering on Duterte-Carpio’s tirades, Marbil has decided to keep his focus on helping the PNP personnel affected by Typhoon Carina.
“’Yung ating Chief PNP po ay mas pinili na lamang po munang magtrabaho. In fact, over the weekend, ay kasama ko po mismo ‘yung ating Chief PNP. Nag-ikot po tayo doon sa mga PNP personnel natin na naapektuhan ng bagyo,” Fajardo told the media.
“Ito po ngayon ‘yung pinagkakaabalahan ng ating Chief PNP, at mas pinili na lamang po niyang tutukan ito pong mga pangangailangan po ng ating mga pulis at huwag na pong sagutin kung ano po ‘yung mga isyu na hinaharap ng ating bansa,” she added.
In a lengthy letter posted on her Facebook account, Duterte-Carpio lambasted Marbil for lying to the public with his alibi regarding the removal of the PNP Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) personnel assigned to her.
The Vice President added the removal of her security detail came after she resigned as secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the release of the video supposedly showing President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. using illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, Sen. Imee Marcos has ordered Marbil to return the Vice President’s police security not only because she is the second highest government official but also she’s No. 1 on the communist rebels’ hit list.
“VP Sara Z. Duterte should have her security detail back ASAP,” Marcos said in a Facebook post. “First, she is the second highest elected official in the country whose safety must never be compromised.”
“Second, she is a Duterte who, like her father, is a staunch defender of law and order, hence topping the CPP-NPA’s order of battle,” she added. “At sino naman yang Rommel Marbil? Ni hindi ko nga yan kilala.”
Marbil, who was appointed as PNP chief in lieu of retired Emmanuel Peralta, is a former police director Region 8 in Leyte./PN
