MANILA – The Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors captured the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Reinforced Conference crown with a 25-14, 25-10, 22-25, 25-23 win over the Bureau of Customs Transformers on Monday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
American reinforcement Breanna Mackie led the way with 23 points, including 21 attacks, for the Lady Warriors, which captured its second straight crown after sweeping the best-of-three championship series.
Finals MVP Michelle Gumabao and Kay Kacsits chipped in 14 points apiece, while Myla Pablo contributed 13 markers for the Lady Warriors, which also scored a 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 against the Transformers in Game 1 last Saturday.
“It feels great. This was the goal we set for ourselves to start the season,” said Lady Warriors head coach Rommel Abella. “Talagang pinagtiyagaan namin lahat ng aches and bumps along the road.”
The Lady Warriors jumped to an early 8-4 lead in the opening set behind Pablo and Gumabao. More hits from Pablo widened the lead to 17-9. After a mini run by the Transformers, the Lady Warriors went on an 8-2 rally behind Mackie to take the set.
The Lady Warriors duplicated its strong start in the first set as it built a 16-6 second set lead. The Lady Warriors’ edge later grew further to 22-7 before taking the set courtesy of service errors by the Transformers.
After dropping the third set, both teams went on tight battle in the fourth frame with the score knotted several times until a 23-all fiasco. But back-to-back service aces by Desiree Dadang handed the championship to the Lady Warriors.
Kanjana Kuthaisong top-scored with 32 points, on 28 attacks, two blocks and two service aces, while conference MVP Alyssa Valdez added 10 markers for the Transformers./PN
