MANILA – The RC Cola-Army Lady Troopers got back on the winning track in the 2016 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-10 win over the Cignal HD Spikers on Tuesday at the Imus City Sports Complex in Imus, Cavite.
Guimaras-native Jovelyn Gonzaga provided the spark with 16 points, on 14 attacks, one block and one service ace, for the Lady Troopers, which notched its third victory in seven outings.
Meanwhile, Honey Royse Tubino and import American reinforcement Hailey Ripley chipped in nine and eight markers, respectively, for the Lady Troopers, which is hoping for its fourth PSL title.
The win also put the Lady Troopers in a perfect position to catch up for the third spot in the playoffs with the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, which is playing the unbeaten Foton Tornadoes at press time.
“We trained hard for this and vowed to correct all the previous mistakes we had in the past. We analyzed those things and we agreed to work hard to win our remaining games. I hope things would be well,” said Lady Troopers head coach Emilio Reyes.
With import Lynda Morales not around for the HD Spikers, the Lady Troopers attacked from all fronts with Gonzaga, Tubino and Rachel Anne Daquis spearheading the offense.
Reinforcement Laura Schaudt was the lone bright sport on offense with her five kills and two aces for a total of seven points for the HD Spikers, which absorbed their fifth setback in six games./PN
